Chemical Composition of Stainless Steel Pipes
The table below shows the chemical composition for stainless steel pipe under ASTM A312. Differences in chromium, nickel and molybdenum content in each grade determine their corrosion resistance and suitability for particular service conditions.

Grades such as TP316 and TP316L contain molybdenum, which gives better corrosion resistance in chloride-rich environments (like seawater) than TP304. Grades TP321 and TP316Ti contain titanium, which helps stabilise the steel and prevents sensitisation during welding (reducing the risk of weld corrosion). Grades with higher chromium, such as TP309S and TP310S, are chosen mainly for high‑temperature service, where oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures is the key requirement.

Types of Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes
Stainless steel pipes and tubes are available in several forms, each suited to different pressure ratings, applications, and fabrication requirements. The main types are listed below.
Seamless Stainless Steel Pipes
Produced without a weld seam, these pipes offer uniform strength throughout. Used in
high-pressure and high-temperature applications where structural integrity across
the pipe wall is critical.
Welded Stainless Steel Pipes
Formed by rolling a strip of stainless steel and welding it along the length. These
pipes suit low to moderate pressure duties and are typically more economical than
seamless pipes in larger diameters.
ERW Pipes (Electric Resistance Welded)
These pipes are joined using electrical resistance heating instead of filler metal.
This creates a uniform weld seam and enables more precise control of dimensions than
other welding techniques.
Stainless Steel Square and Rectangular Tubes
Used in structural applications, fabrication, and support frameworks. Available in a
range of wall thicknesses and grades depending on load and environmental exposure
requirements.
Stainless Steel Instrumentation Tubes
These tubes have a precise outer diameter and wall thickness. They are used in
instrumentation, hydraulic lines, and control systems where exact size and smooth
surfaces are required.
The product range includes hollow sections, capillary tubing, and custom-shaped tubes manufactured to client requirements in grades such as 304, 316L, 321, and 347.
